The U.S. Department of State is donating $21.7 million worth of medical equipment and supplies to various medical facilities in Moldova, within the framework of the Operation Provide Hope (OPH) Project.  This assistance represents half a million kilograms of supplies. more

Swearing-in ceremony for Peace Corps volunteers to Moldova

The 23rd group of the U.S. Peace Corps volunteers to Moldova were sworn-in on August 20at the U.S. Ambassador’s Residence. The ceremony also celebrated the Peace Corps Moldova’s 15th anniversary and the Year of Youth in Moldova. Fifteen members of this group will teach health education in schools around the country, while 19 will teach English. more

As part of the U.S. Embassy efforts aimed at strengthening the cultural ties between Moldova and the U.S., three women soccer players from Moldova, Samson Cristina, Cernalevscaia Valeria, and Pancratova Alisa, attended a summer camp for soccer players in North Carolina during July 24-27, 2008.  All camp fees were covered by North Carolina Girls Soccer Camp, airfare costs were shared between the U.S. Embassy and the Moldovan Football Federation, and Sun Communications. The North Carolina State Partnership Program supported the girls during their visit.  more

“Nicolae Testemitanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy awarded an honorary Doctor Honoris Causa degree to U.S. Ambassador Michael Kirby.  The ceremony was held on Friday, June 20, in the Senate Room of the Medical University.  more

U.S. and Moldovan military staff exchanged experiences in planning and executing peacekeeping operations during a recent event conducted at the Bulboaca National Training Center over the course of last week. 

The Unit Level Event was aimed at familiarizing a Company sized element of the Moldovan 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion in planning and executing peacekeeping operations. more

 Ambassador Michael D. Kirby joined Moldovan officials and members of the general public in celebration of World Blood Donor Day, by giving blood and encouraging others to follow his example.
 Ambassador Michael D. Kirby joined Moldovan officials and members of the general public in celebration of World Blood Donor Day, by giving blood and encouraging others to follow his example.
On June 14, Ambassador Kirby recognized World Blood Donor Day by giving blood at a mobile blood collecting lab in Stefan cel Mare Public Garden in Chisinau. The Ambassador confirmed the slogan of the current campaign "Give Blood Regularly, One Donation is Not Enough", as he donated blood for the second time since his arrival in Moldova. Many Moldovan officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Victor Stepaniuc, Health Minister Larisa Catrinici and the chief of the National Blood Transfusion Center, Svetlana Cebotari, as well as representatives of international and non-governmental organizations donated blood during this campaign, and they called the people to follow their example. The campaign was financed by USAID and the Transfusion Security component of the Project on preventing HIV/AIDS and B and C Viral Hepatitis, implemented by the Health Ministry.
